I, Mitul Bhat, am a Communication Design graduate from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. As a child, my mother had anxiety attacks with my disinterest in the written script and fascination with pictures in the books. However images and visuals always excited me; they still entice me into film theaters week after week. NID provided the perfect breeding ground for my restless soul to wander and find its own niche. Over cups of chai and hours of chats, I learnt the tricks of the trade from the stalwarts of the industry themselves. NID also took me to Dubai, for a six month project at the Dubai Media City, where I was to design the brand identity for the merger of two advertising agencies. So, while friends and family were waiting for me to return from the exile, I was busy coping up with the pressures of developing a new identity, and that of a culture shock instigated by the belly dancers and pole dancers at murky after hour's bars. Cut to post NID, another era in my life, where I found myself lost in the big bad "industry" world. The written script, I had successfully evaded for so many years had managed to enter my life in the form of specification documents, interaction proposals and written code, first at Juriscape Legal Research Pvt Ltd, and then at D.E.Shaw India Pvt Ltd. The side effects of this- my tagline changed to "I hate HTML more than I hate you." That’s when I thought, I’ve had enough and I decided to carve out a path for myself, back into the world of visuals. I started my own Design startup called Doodles with a partner-friend. We did some interesting projects for Mtv, Reliance, LeoAir and Colosceum before parting ways. Doodles never became the success story it was intended to be! So here i am in Bangaloroo; from Ahmedabad > Dubai > Hyderabad > Mumbai. This time armored with both visuals & words and of course, what NOT to do in a start-up!!
